of Rs. 16.666 Million communicated vide NO.SO(AB-1) 4-9/2005(P-I)
GOVERNMENT OF THE PUNJAB, FINANCE DEPARTMENT, dated May
19th, 2006. A scheme of a Hostel for 400 students
with a cost of Rs. 81.02 Millions was submitted. However
it was agreed for only 200 students at a cost of Rs. 54.13
Millions in the Departmental Development Sub Committee meeting
held on 26.9.2005.

and Technology, Taxila”, Scheme
approved by DDWP (HEC) on 23. 12. 2004 at a cost of Rs.
20.093 Million.

“Costruction of Hostel
for Visiting Foreign Faculty at University
of Engineering
and Technology Taxila” Scheme approved by DDWP (HEC) on
1. 12. 2004 at a cost of Rs. 15.447 Million. (No. P&D/12(156)/24/204/584
dated January 24, 2005). The university aims at establishing
linkages with foreign universities/institutes and concentrate
on cutting edge technologies. Higher Education Commission
is also supporting universities by providing services of
Foreign scholars. To meet this requirement the scheme
was prepared by the university.
15.
“Purchase of Land
and Construction of Approach Road for the university of Engineering
and Technology Taxila” Scheme approved by PDWP on 15. 11.
2003 at a cost of Rs. 50.233 Million. The university had
no independent approach Road. No successful efforts were
made in the early Twenty Five years of the history of this
campus. The efforts were started in 2001. The issuance of
the orders u/s 4 and u/s 6 for the acquisition of Land required
a lot of efforts and time. This was followed by the estimation
of the cost. The cost of land approved by the Board of Revenue,
Punjab vide letter No. 84-2003/277 dated 29-03-2003 as Rs.
3,15,87,826/25, Then a ban was imposed by the Chief Minister
on the award. Long efforts were required in getting the
ban lifted and the above project for the funding for the
construction of the road and the cost of the land approved
from the Government of Punjab.
16.
“Building for the
Central Library” approved at a cost of Rs. 37.979 Million
in DDWP meeting held on 26. 01. 2004. Administrative Approval
issued vide No. P&D/12(156)/16/2003/1542 dated March
31, 2004. The university had no proper Library building.
Three Halls in old Laboratory building were used as Library.
This project shall be funded by HEC and shall provide 42000
sft of the covered area and some modern facilities in the
university main library.
17.
“Establishment of Advance Manufacturing System
Lab in Mechanical Engineering Department” at a capital cost
of Rs. 35.11 million approved by DDWP in its meeting held
on October 18, 2003 communicated vide No. P&D/12(156)/DDWP/14/2002/1208
dated November 07, 2003. This project is funded by HEC and
shall mainly provide Laboratory equipment for Mechanical
Engineering Department for the improvement of quality of
studies.
18.
“Upgradation of Research
Laboratories of Transportation Engineering in CED” at a
Capital Cost of Rs. 37.800 million, Administrative approval
issued vide No. P&D-12(156)/12/2003/712 dated September
27, 2003. This project is funded by HEC and shall provide
building and laboratory equipment to start high quality
postgraduate program in the Transportation Engineering;
a specialization of Civil Engineering Department.
19.
“University Computerization
and Networking Enhancement” at a Capital Cost of Rs. 27.270
million, Administrative approval issued vide No. P&D-12(156)/07/2003
dated September 25, 2003. This project is funded by HEC
and shall help computerization of the university processes.
It shall link students and faculty with word wide web and
the intranet of universites. Connectivity shall also be
provided in the hostels.
20.
“Establishment of Centre for Industrial IT: Control
and Automation” approved by DDWP in its meeting held on
February 01, 2003 communicated vide No. P&D/12(156)/05/2003
dated March 07, 2003. This project is funded by HEC and
shall provide renovation of the building and laboratory
equipment to start high quality postgraduate program in
the Industrial IT and Control Automation; a specialization
in Electrical Engineering Department.
21.
Construction of University
Mosque (on going) started on Nov. 8, 2002. The univeristy
had no proper Jamia Mosque.
22.
The administrative
approval for the development project titled “Establishment
of Centre of Excellence for ASIC Design and Signal Processing
at University of Engineering and Technology” at a total
cost of Rs. 34.988 million vide GOP, MoST, IT&Telecom div. Letter No.
5(13)/2002-AC(P) dated 23rd October, 2002. This
project was funded by IT&T div. of MoST to provide laboratory
equipment and the faculty to start studies in the high tech
IT ralated field of Computer engineering Department and
Electrical Engineering Department

The administrative
approval for the development project titled “Establishment
of Centre for Computer Engineering and Informatics” at a
total cost of Rs. 39.671 million vide GOP, MoST, IT&Telecom div. Letter No.
9-50/2002-IT dated 16th March, 2002. The funds
were approved by IT&T div. of MoST to provide laboratory
equipment and the faculty to support the degree programs
of B. Sc. Computer Engineering and Software Engineering.

The approval PC-1
for the Establishment of Endowment for Higher Education
and R&D in IT & TelecomSector for Postgraduate Studies
and Research in Signal Processing at a total cost of Rs.
110.00 million vide GOP, MoST, IT&Telecom div. Letter
No. 1-10/2002-IT dated 1st March, 2002. This
fund was provided to start and sustain Ph. D. studies in
IT related subjects.
25.
Permission for the
establishment of a sub campus of the University at Rawalpindi
vide letter no GS(A)6-1/2001-2 dated January 3, 2002.
26.
Opening Ceremony
of the Administrative Block on January 25, 2002. The construction
of the administrative block of university was completed
at a satisfactory speed and brought into operation.
27.
Start of Software
Engineering Program (January 2002). This project was started
to provide graduate engineers in the IT for the economic
development of the country.
28.
Self owned on-the-campus
water supply system. The project started with the exhaustive
water divining of the campus area, followed by the resistivity
measurements of the promising sites, trial bore and the
final tubewell construction. The whole project was completed
within few months in 2001. Prior to this project water had
been purchased from other agencies at a very high cost since
the start of this campus in 1975.

Construction of second
floor of Electrical Engineering Department. This project
was started from the university’s own resources to provide
sufficient covered space in Electrical Engineering Department
for the needed laboratories and other facilites such as
Examination Hall.
30.
Start of Ph. D. Program in the University (First admission
in August 2001). This program was very much needed for the
growth of research and to bring the university status in
reality.

The administrative
approval for the development project titled “Strengthening
of Laboratories and Library of Structural Engineering and
Transportation Engineering Division(Civil Engineering Department)”
at a total cost of Rs. 39.742 million vide GOP, MoST, IT&Telecom div. Letter No.
26(20)/2001 ASA-II(P&D) dated 15th May, 2001.

Start of Computer
Engineering Program; A project was planned earlier to my
taking the charge of Vice Chancellorship to start studies
in Comuter enginnering, Comuter Science and Information
Technology. After
I assumed the charge as a Vice Chancellor the program was
refined keeping in view the ground realities and Engineering
bias of the university. Hence the students were admitted
in the program of B. Sc. Computer Engineering.
