12TH NATIONAL ENGINEERING ROBOTICS CONTEST 2014
A JOINT VENTURE OF NUST AND CAREERS PROGRAMME – HEC
National
Engineering Robotics Contest (NERC) is an annual event hosted by Department
of Mechatronics Engineering, EME (NUST). This year event took place
from 17-21 June, 2014. Total of 145 teams from all over Pakistan were
competing in this event. SIX teams from UET Taxila, sub-campus Chakwal
participated in NERC this year. We took both hands in hand the accuracy
and the speed and developed sound and balanced robots to compete in
12th NERC 2014. The teams were enthralled by the new theme and worked
really hard for to make their presence felt.
The arena was full of participants and robots when the qualifying
rounds began at 19th June and with every moment passed, the contest
got more and more enthralling. Every robot entered the arena with
its own unique name and applauding roars from the crowd which made
the start of event more exciting .There were lights, up-beating noise,
cheering from the crowd which gave a sizzling feeling to the competition.
By sheer commitment and dedication FIVE teams from our campus made
it to the top 32 teams. The dawn of 21st June came as a test of nerves
of all the teams. With spectacular performance, FOUR of our teams
were in top sixteen and TWO of them made it to Quarter-Finals. At
this point the game seemed to be more of ‘’EME (NUST)”
versus “Chakwal Campus (UET Taxila)’’ since these
were the only teams left to compete at this stage.
What made the later prominent was its unique robot mechanical design
and the audience got to see some spectacular moves. Teams from Chakwal
campus gave indeed a tough competition to NUSTians and there was a
gasp and awe of amazement from the crowd and even from the faculty
of NUST for UETians.
In the quarter finals, Chakwal campus teams competing against NUST
were indeed worth watching. It wasn’t made easy for NUSTians
to win through the game.
Our performance at NERC was rewarded and as our teams deservedly won
two awards in this prestigious event. Our teams won “Best Engineering
Design Award” with prize money of Rs. 30,000 and “Special
EME Performance Award”. With limited resources at their disposal
Chakwal, it was JOB WELL DONE by Chakwal campus. The credit for such
performances indeed goes to participants for their hard work with
minimum resources available and of course to faculty especially the
supervision of Engr. Shoaib Aslam and Engr. Muhammad Asif.
We plan to send TEN teams in 13th NERC
and have set our goal to win the event in 2015
