IRU on New Traffic Trends in the World and on Digital
Tachograph System

At Conference Hall, Admin Block, UET Taxila
A short lecture was arranged by the Chairman Department
of Civil Engineering on the new Traffic trends
in the world on 18th april 2012. the delegate
from International Road Transport Union “IRU”
was invited to deliver the lecture. Mr Hayder
Ozkan was the guest speaker and gave briefing
about the Road Transport Facilitation for Efficient
Economy and Social Welfare. He also put light
on the IRU strategy to achieve sustainable development.
In this regard, the TIR System and TIR Convention
was briefly described with different strategies
like Black Sea Ring Highway Caravan 2007 and IRU-ECO
Silk Road Travel Caravan 2010 studies. He also
told the participants about IRU Model Highway
Initiative (IRU-MHI).
Also a presentation on the Digital tachograph
system was given to the audience. The Digital
Tachograph automatically records the travel time
and other records of the drivers. This can be
later on accessed and analysed by using the computer
programmes.
Digital Tachograph have been made mandatory in
European Continent for all the relevant vehicles
manufactured after 2005. The Tachograph records
the travel time and other records of the drivers.
It is a useful tool for checking and regulating
the mobility and behavior of the drivers including
their travel time and driving pattern.
At the end the delegate members were presented
insignia shields and were thanked by the UET officials
for sharing their knowledge about the latest trends
in traffic engineering.
