UET Taxila First
Faculty Conference (IDEAS 2011) on 8th January, 2011
A day long faculty conference was held at
UET, Taxila on January 8, 2011. The theme of the conference
was ‘IDEAS 2011’.
Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, chairman, Higher Education Commission
of Pakistan was the chief guest of this first faculty
conference, while Dr Shoaib Suddle, Federal Tax Ombudsman
and Mian Muhammad Javaid, Former Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication
Authority were the guest speakers on this auspicious
occasion.
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Abbas Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering
& Technology, Taxila paid rich tributes to HEC for
their constant support to UET, Taxila. He specially
lauded the efforts of Dr. Laghari for the betterment
of higher education in Pakistan. He expressed his profound
thanks to Dr. Suddle and Mian Javaid for their knowledge
sharing in this conference. He also thanked and urged
the faculty members to keep continuing their best efforts
in the fields of teaching and research. |

Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, in his address highlighted
the efforts of HEC for the promotion of higher education in
Pakistan. He also discussed in detail about the future plans
of HEC for research and faculty development. He specially
mentioned the much needed steps of monitoring to ensure quality
assurance in different stages of research. He assured the
faculty members for the best possible support of HEC in their
research and development activities.
Mian Muhammad Javaid urged the young faculty
members to make the best use of their time and try to learn
from the experiences of their senior professors for achieving
excellence in research. He emphasized the importance of communication
skills in engineering graduates besides their technical knowledge.
Dr. Shoaib Suddle underscored the importance
of establishing an institute for the research of criminal
studies in a developing country like Pakistan. He also shared
his diverse experiences with the faculty members and explained
the concept of right decision at the right time.
During the conference, faculty members were
divided into several groups to carry out brainstorming sessions
on the assigned topics, which include (i) International Conference
(ii) Alumni (iii) Quality Assurance (iv) Industrial Linkage
(v) Research and Academics (vi) Industrial Exhibition (vii)
International Liaison (viii) Resource Generation (ix) University
Infrastructure. Later, focal persons of these groups presented
the outcome of their discussion and sought suggestions from
the audience for further enrichment of these ideas.
With the active participation of all faculty
members, IDEAS 2011 successfully achieved its objective to
involve faculty members in the planning of upcoming events
for the year 2011.
