🏭 Kohinoor Textile Mills (KTML), Rawalpindi
Collaboration with Kohinoor Textile Mills focuses on process improvement, lean manufacturing, and energy optimization within textile production units.
Students and researchers have conducted studies on machine utilization, quality assurance in weaving and dyeing operations, and efficiency enhancement through industrial automation and IoT-based monitoring.
Outcomes from these projects have contributed to cost reduction, waste minimization, and improved productivity in textile operations.
🏗️ Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC), Taxila
At HMC, final-year and postgraduate students have undertaken projects related to tool design, production planning, and simulation modeling of heavy engineering components.
Research areas include welding automation, assembly line balancing, and CAD-based design optimization.
Collaborative efforts also support digital transformation and Industry 4.0 readiness, enabling modernized manufacturing systems for large-scale industrial production.
🔫 Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Wah Cantt
Collaboration with POF focuses on productivity improvement, quality enhancement, and safety optimization in defense manufacturing.
Projects have explored supply chain streamlining, lean practices implementation, ergonomic assessments, and maintenance management systems.
These initiatives have strengthened the department’s role in contributing to strategic industrial efficiency and sustainable defense manufacturing.
🛡️ Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Taxila Cantt
The department’s collaboration with HIT involves research on material processing, digital manufacturing, and maintenance optimization.
Students have worked on projects such as process standardization, CNC tool path optimization, and integration of CAD/CAM systems for heavy vehicle components.
Joint studies promote innovation in defense engineering, enhancing both design capability and production reliability.
✈️ Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAF), Kamra
At PAF Kamra, Industrial Engineering students engage in projects related to aerospace manufacturing systems, precision tooling, and maintenance scheduling.
Research has focused on workflow optimization, lean maintenance systems, and resource planning for aircraft component production and repair facilities.
The collaboration strengthens exposure to high-precision manufacturing environments and advanced quality control systems.

1. Title:
Resource optimization in hospitals for healthcare 4.0 perspectives
2. Aim:
The aim of the project is to develop a method and a system for efficient planning and scheduling of surgeries in the operation theatre complex of hospitals in a rolling horizon and integrating all levels of decision-making.
3. Objectives:
- Development of method to identify bottleneck resource in hospital
- Identification of objecives and constraints of the hospital
- Development of mathematical models with identified objectives and constraints using mixed integer linear programming.
- Development of constraint-based heuristics solutions for optimization of developed models and multi-level planning and scheduling of hospital
- Development of intelligent planning and scheduling system using developed system models and their optimal solution methods.
- Collection of real time data for case study from a case hospital
- Applying the develped system in collaborative hospital to test the performance of developed system.

1. TITLE
Welding Digitization for Industry 4.0
(NRPU Project No. 17025)
2. AIM
To develop a cost effective closed loop intelligent welding system for welding digitization in Industry 4.0.
3. OBJECTIVES
• Design and development of a welding robot
• Development of closed-loop control incorporating sensor feedback
• Development of machine learning algorithms for autonomous welding parameter control and defect detection
• Validating the effectiveness of the system by deploying it for welding research problems
4. PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
• Developed SmartWeldX : A closed loop adaptive robotic welding system integrating an HDR vision-based AI module and rule-based feedback control for real-time defect detection and adaptive parameter adjustment
• Developed SenseWeldPro: A multi-sensor intelligent monitoring system integrating HD camera, acoustic sensor, Hall sensor and infrared camera with YOLO and LSTM based AI models for surface and internal weld defect detection
• Developed two ROS based robotic welding prototypes with dedicated GUIs
5. ACHIEVEMENTS
• SmartWeldX AI module detected six weld quality classes in real time; YOLOv11 achieved ~99.43% accuracy ([email protected] ≈ 0.994)
• Acceptable weld rate improved from 40% (manual GTAW) to 82% with the adaptive system
• SenseWeldPro surface defect model achieved [email protected] = 0.994; internal defect monitoring achieved 99.89% accuracy for Hall sensor-based porosity detection and 99.52% for acoustic LSTM-based defect detection
• Hybrid TTT-TIC technique reduced longitudinal distortion from 0.105 mm to 0.043 mm (titanium side) and from 0.141 mm to 0.057 mm (SS 304 side)
