COURSE POLICY

Course Management System - UET Taxila Information will be disseminated to you through these means: e-mail and course website. It is your responsibility to check out your mailbox and the course website regularly (at least once a day) for news and information. Failure to do so is no excuse.

Your lecturer may use e-mails for highly urgent matters, or group related matters. We only recognize your official(email address that you have provided) e-mail address. If you set forward service to your mailbox in your ISP account or other external mail server, you must ensure that the mail server in use is reliable, otherwise e-mails from us will not reach you on time, or even reach you at all.

If you send me any e-mail for other than provided address, I will only reply if you include your provided e-mail address, your name and registration number in your message. This is necessary as we need to ascertain your identity.
We reserve the right to publish our answers to your queries to the class if we feel that they are of interest and benefit to the class. However, you may request for anonymity and we will shield your identify.
Most of the time, we will try to refrain from sending e-mails to you unnecessarily, and rely more on the course website.
Last but not least, the course website is the depository of course information. Visit the website regularly to check on the latest news and updates. The website is at http://uet.homeip.net/uet/computer/YasarAmin

Notes and Handouts

To eliminate wastage of papers, lecture notes are all available at the website for downloading.
Additional handouts may be given out during tutorial or lab. Handouts will be cleared from the Teacher’s backup two weeks after deposit.

Attendance

Attendance will be marked in class, and some weightage is given to attendance. If you are absent from class and do not wish to be penalised, you are to forward your reason to your respective lecturer, through writing or through e-mail, preferably before the lesson if possible, or within 3 days after the lesson. For medical reason, you are to submit a copy of your medical certificate to your lecturer.

MC/EX Mark and Transfer of Weight to Examination

If you are absent from quizzes, or fail to submit assignments on time without a valid reason, you will not receive any marks. If your reason is accepted, you will receive an MC (medical certificate) or EX (exempted) mark, and you will not be penalised.
The transfer of weight is based on the lecturer policy and not on students` requests.

Preparation for Class

You are to be prepared before you attend your tutorial or lab lesson. For tutorials, you are to get the answers ready before the lesson.

Late Submission of Assignments

Deadlines of submission of assignments must be strictly adhered to and late submissions without valid reason will not be entertained.

Plagiarism

The university does not condone plagiarism. If detected, both the party who copied and the party who had permitted the copying will be penalised by receiving a zero mark. Repeat offenders will be referred to higher authority.
We permit and encourage healthy discussion among students. However, students must draw the line between discussion and copying.

About Examination

All email queries about examination should be raised and forwarded to [email protected] one week before your examination. After that, I will not answer any queries pertaining to the examination. However, you may still post your queries during the office hours of the lecturer.
In order to be fair to the class, we will post our answers to these queries in Q&A section of the website, or if really necessary, we will mass mail to all students. Your identity will not be revealed to the class so you don`t have to worry.
The exam is closed-book. For the exam format, please go to "Exams" under "CA Activities".
You are allowed to use pencil for diagrams (circuits, tables, etc.) in the exam. But remember to fill in important information such as your Registration number in ink.

Be Serious in Your Study

All these seemingly `harsh` policies and rules are to be taken in the right light. In a small class, we do not need to spell these out explicitly as we can easily monitor the situation. But as this is a very large class, we need these policies to maintain uniformity and fairness as much as we can, and to ensure smooth running of the course. If everybody cooperates, your Lecturer will be relieved of many unnecessary tasks and hence will be able to devote more quality time on you.
But this is not a one-way traffic. I welcome your comments and suggestions, if you spot any possibility for improvements. Just drop me an e-mail at [email protected]
