The MS Data Science program at UET Taxila is designed not only to equip students with advanced analytical and technical skills but also to foster a culture of applied research and innovation. Our research endeavours are closely aligned with current industry trends, national priorities, and global technological advancements. We encourage our students to take on challenging, impactful problems and to contribute novel solutions to the data science community.

Core Research Areas

Students are guided to select research problems from diverse yet high-impact domains. Some of the key research areas include:

  • Machine Learning & Deep Learning Applications
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) & Text Mining
  • Computer Vision & Image Processing
  • Big Data Analytics & Scalable Data Architectures
  • Healthcare Data Science & Medical Imaging
  • Agricultural & Environmental Data Intelligence
  • Cybersecurity & Anomaly Detection using AI
  • Predictive Analytics & Time-Series Forecasting
  • AI for Smart Cities & Industry 4.0
  • Social Media Analysis & Sentiment Mining
  • Ethical AI, Bias Detection, and Responsible Data Use

Emerging interdisciplinary areas such as AI in Healthcare, Data-Driven Policy Making, and AI for Social Good are also highly encouraged.

Thesis Guidelines

The MS thesis is a critical component of the program, offering students the opportunity to conduct independent, supervised research that demonstrates their mastery of data science principles and methods.

Thesis Supervision and Topic Selection

  • Thesis topics are finalized in consultation with qualified faculty supervisors.
  • Students may propose their own ideas or select from faculty-suggested projects aligned with ongoing research.
  • Industry-partnered thesis projects are encouraged, where students work on real-world problems with practical impact.

Thesis Timeline & Milestones

Students are expected to follow a structured timeline, which typically includes:
