There was a time when human being put step on this planet “earth”.
He was covering his body with leaves of plants. He was protecting
himself from extremes of weather in caves of mountains or dwellings
made of branches of trees. However, Allah Almighty has bestowed
human being the wisdom and the sense of innovation and creativity
for which he wants always a change of betterment and improvement.
Dwellings changed from braches to stone to mud to bricks. The creation
of cement and harnessing the strength of steel made a revolutionary
change in the field of construction industry. The buildings were
raised from just a few feet to hundreds of feet. In recent years,
the high strength materials have been developed and computational
power of computers advance mathematical techniques have lengthened
the span of bridges and buildings from a few yards to hundreds of
yards. The extent of size of projects has created a new construction
management science.
High rise buildings are now being constructed now in all major cities
of Pakistan. The disasters of earthquake in recent past have opened
the eyes of all stakeholders of Pakistan and the development of
a Pakistan building code has been completed. For sustain in the
world, the sustainability of building materials also attract the
serious attention of our researchers. The dissemination of knowledge
for safe and low cost dwellings is indispensable now.
UET Taxila is one of the major centers of the country where a rich
and full of enthusiasm and zeal team is carrying out research in
all areas of structural engineering like Engineering Mechanics,
Dynamics of Structures, Non-destructive testing of structures, Engineering
materials, Use of smart and advance materials in structures, Bridge
Engineering, etc. A foreign qualified holding PhD and MSc degrees
team of structural Engineers are continuously engaged in research
and development activities.
