Academic and Administrative Committees

The BoF is a statutory body at Faculty level and its compositions and functions are defined in UET Taxila Act 1994. The Board of each Faculty consist of;

  1. Dean of Faculty.
  2. Professors and the Chairmen of the Academic Departments in the Faculty.
  3. One member other than professors and Chairmen of the Academic Departments to be nominated by the Chairman.
  4. Two teachers to be nominated by the Academic Council by reason of their specialized knowledge of the subjects which, though not assigned to the Faculty, have in the opinion of the Academic Council, important bearing on the subjects assigned to the faculty.
  5. Two experts in the field from outside the University to be appointed by the Syndicate.
  6. One Technologist to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor.

The members other than ex-officio members hold office for three years. The quorum for a meeting of the Board of a Faculty is one-half of the total number of members, a fraction being counted as one.

Functions of the Board of Faculty

The Board Faculty is subject to the general control of the Academic Council and the Syndicate has the powers to

  1. Co-ordinate the teaching, technology development and research work in the subjects assigned to the Faculty
  2. Scrutinize the recommendations of the Boards of Studies comprising the Faculty with regard to the appointment of paper-setters and examiners for undergraduate examinations and to forward the panels of suitable paper-setters and examiners for each examination to the Vice-Chancellor
  3. Consider any other academic matter relating to the Faculty and report thereon to the Academic Council
  4. Prepare a comprehensive annual report regarding the performance of each Department comprising the Faculty for presentation to the Academic Council
  5. Perform such other functions as may be prescribed by Statutes.

There are following two separate Boards of Studies for each subject or group of subjects as may be prescribed by Regulations;

(i)  Board of Undergraduate Studies(BoUGS)

(ii)  Board of Postgraduate Studies(BoPGS)

Board of Undergraduate Studies consist of:

(i)  All the Teachers of the department concerned having postgraduate qualifications;

(ii)  Three to five experts or teachers, other than University teachers, to be appointed by the Vice- Chancellor;

(iii)  One Technologist to be nominated by the Dean.

Functions of the Board of Studies

 The functions of the Board of Undergraduate Studies are to:

 (i)  Advise the Authorities on all academic matters connected with instructions and examinations in the subject or subjects to be taught at undergraduate level or below;

(ii)  Propose curricula and syllabi for all undergraduate or lower level subject or subjects concerned;

(iii)  Suggest a panel of names of paper-setters and examiners for the undergraduate or lower level subject or subjects concerned; and

(iv)  Perform such other functions as may be prescribed by the Regulations.

  The functions of the Board of Postgraduate Studies are to:

(i)   advise the Authorities on technological development and all academic matters connected with instructions, research and examinations at postgraduate level in the subject or subjects concerned;

(ii)  Propose curricula and syllabi for all postgraduate degree, diploma and certificate courses in the subject or subjects concerned;

(iii)  Suggest a panel of names of paper-setters and examiners in the subject or subjects of postgraduate level;

(iv  Recommend to the Board of Advanced Studies, Research and Technological Development the name of the Supervisor, title and synopsis of the research thesis/dissertation; and

(v)  Perform such other functions as may be prescribed by Regulations.

The department has an active Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) in which professional engineers working in various engineering organizations are included.

In order to keep the curriculum, PEOs etc. up-to-date and to fulfill the current needs of the industry, the Curriculum of BSc Electronics Engineering is proposed in consultation with the Industry Professionals and Employers, which are members of the Industrial Advisory Board and the BoUGS of the department

The following committees are constituted for the smooth implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE) in Electronics Engineering Department.

1. Departmental Program Committee

The Chairman of the department is the head of Program committee. Two senior faculty members are the members of program committee. The responsibilities include:

  1. To manage, direct and evaluate the continuous improvement processes of program.
  2. To periodically assess the achievement of program objectives, outcomes and curriculum.
  3. To review and evaluate the feedback from the department program constituencies.
  4. To review and approve any actions or changes raised from other committees involved in the program.
  5. To provide/review Key performance indicators or standards for assessment.
  6. Preparation of SAR in coordination with all concerned faculty members.

2. Subject/CQI Committee

This committee consists of three senior faculty members along with one lecturer. The responsibilities include:

  1. To assure the quality of learning and teaching processes of courses by meeting Program Committee standards. 
  2. To review the objective, outcomes and syllabus of each course and propose any needed changes to the courses and curriculum.
  3. Propose Curriculum revision and bench marking with International/National Universities.
  4. To suggest actions for improving the delivery of courses, teaching methodology etc.
  5. To recommend and report the program committee for appropriate actions of continuous quality improvement at course and program level.

  2. To receive feedbacks from the course teachers.
  3. To receive surveys of Student feedback (of each course at the end of each semester), Exit students (yearly), alumni (Yearly), internship data and employers (Yearly).
  4. To do statistics for all surveys (Finalizing Session PLO attainment sheets/individual PLO sheets at end of each semester, collecting all data regarding FYP)
  5. To analyse Program Outcomes using all assessment tools.
  6. To provide all documentation and submit report to Subject/CQI committee.

Department has taken initiative to establish an OBE cell in order to execute the OBE system related activities. The computational work required by assessment, subject and Program committees is done in this cell. This cell also keep records of batch wise results and CQI processes and evidences for improvement. Apart from the above committees there exist other committees like industrial advisory board (IAB), Semester Committee, Purchase Committee and Website Development Committee for administrative and/or academic support at departmental level.

Students Counseling and Career Placement

Students at UET Taxila belong to both rural and urban background. They generally have good command on their core courses, but lag the skills necessary to get a job in highly competitive market. Keeping the situation in view, Placement Office has started conducting workshops and one-to-one sessions for enhancing career and employability skills of the students. In order to achieve the objective, numerous workshops were conducted by the Placement Office staff. In addition, many industry experts have also been identified to conduct workshop in UET Taxila. These career counseling workshops will be held regularly for the students of final year. Placement office also runs a Facebook page that advertises available positions for fresh graduates. 

Placement Office

A placement bureau has been established by the university in order to facilitate the placement of students in the industry. The Bureau communicates with public and private sector organizations and broadcasts opportunities among the students. Interview / test arrangements are also made to facilitate the employers. Teachers in their own individual capacities and personal contacts also help graduates in this regard.

Some other recruitment drives include following:

  2. Fauji Fertilizer Corporation (FFC) recruitment test and interviews were conducted on 22nd January 2018.
  3. Naya-Tel recruitment test for fresh graduates of 2k13 session was conducted on 18th April, 2017.
  4. Micro-tech Industries recruitment test was conducted on 30th March, 2016.

Faculty Development Program

The department of Electronics Engineering has allocated a generous budget for faculty development. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities as well as other training sessions and workshops.

The University designs its calendar for CPD activities to develop the competence and ability of engineers for the application of classroom knowledge to practical situations. These activities develop Out of the box thinking skills to provide the innovative solutions of real world problems. The technical skills are developed in faculty members while adhering to professional ethics and acquisition of a broader understating of their obligations to society.

Following is the detail of the CPD activities and the workshops attended by the various faculty members of Electronics Engineering department in 2016-17.

  • National Workshop on Novel Approach to First course in Circuits
  • Corporate Skill Training Workshops for Chairmen/Deans/Directors. The following Modules were covered in the workshop:

Computing facilities

  • There are total 137 computers in the department. Among them 121 computers are for students use and 16 for faculty and staff members.
  • Existing computers are upgraded, while core i7 computers have been purchased for the up gradation of different labs.
  • Wifi Facility is available in entire department.

Common Room

The girls’ common room has carpeted and seating capacity for 25 girls. Comfortable furniture is provided to the students to relax during the free periods. Newspapers, magazines & indoor games are available on demand. Canteen service is available to the students from the main college canteen on telephonic request for which an intercom has been provided.

Classroom Facilities

There are five lecture rooms, a seminar hall and a lecture theater in the department. Each lecture room has capacity for approximately 40 students. Two lecture rooms are fully air-conditioned and well equipped with multimedia facilities. A seminar hall with the capacity for 50 people is available for seminars and training purposes. A spacious lecture theatre is also available that can facilitate around 150 people.

The Department Library supports the teaching of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the department. About 100 titles are currently held in the library related to technical, religious and co-curricular content.  The library is looked offer by Mr. Abu Bakar. Faculty members refer and often prepare their lectures in the library.

Faculty and staff is highly encouraged to participate in the training activities, workshops and seminars at the national and international level. Multiple faculty members have participated in such activities in the past years. University sponsors these activities for strengthening the human and technical/research resources of the department.
