3-1: Introduction
The previous chapter introduced some of the tools of the Visual Basic graphical development environment (project and form windows, labels, textboxes etc), along with the fundamental ideas of objects and their properties, and event programming. This section begins to focus on the programming language features that are necessary for developing any more complex applications.
At the same time new control objects, and new properties of such objects, are introduced through the examples developed.
The purpose of the chapter is to build your understanding of the capabilities of a programming language. The language happens to be Visual Basic, but the concepts are common to any procedural (or imperative) language. So you should not let the details required to implement a program stand in the way of the fundamental concepts. Every so often the section will step back from details to add to your growing map of the concepts.
